8:30 – 9:00 Morning Meeting – Classroom jobs, morning meeting leader begins with prayer, then calendar, weather, and math problem. We then have flag, followed by a read aloud book determined by the genre we are learning about.
9:00 – 9:45 Working with Words – Focuses on activities that help to enforce decoding words phonemic wise, rhyming words, patterns in words, reviewing and learning new sight words, also with this block writing grammatically and/or creatively is done here as well. Word wall review is done in this block as well, also reviewing spelling words for the week.
10:30 – 11:15 Math – Math drills are every Tuesday. Math is fun and exciting with manipulatives and games. Teacher models skills, students often partner up, or act as a group next, and then students work alone. This strategy gives the student three chances to practice the new skill, and therefore retaining the skill is easier.
11:15 – 11:40 – Block dedicated for focusing on guided reading. Depending on the day, the teacher will have partner reading, read aloud, reading on the overhead, or reading alone to allow for reading fluency, reading comprehension, and reading accuracy. Student assessments will be done during this block as well.
11:40 – Bathroom break, hand sanitize time, grace, and lunch
12:15 – Recess until 12:30
12:30 – 1:00 Religion
1:00 – 1:30 Science or Social Studies – Teacher planned thematic units in each subject so this block is shared between the two subjects with several weeks spent in one area, and then several weeks on the other subject.
1:30 – 1:45 Go over homework in agenda, write it in if it has not been done in the morning, if it is already in there, go over the homework instructions, remind them what books will be needed for home, pack up and pray.
1:50 – 2:00 If time permits, recap of the day’s facts that were learned, spelling game called Sparkle in line, share time for those who wish to share, classroom game, clean desks, wipe off desks, jobs are also done here, tennis ball cleaner for floors, sweepers, chalkboard gets erased.
