First Grade May Newsletter!

 May 14, 2012

Hello Parents,

I cannot believe we are in the middle of May!  I had a wonderful teacher appreciation week!  Thank you all so much!  I hope all our Mothers had a fabulous Mother’s Day! We have been busy beavers as usual! We are revisiting learning all about empathy and how to be a good friend.  We are learning all about Mary, Jesus’ mother this month.  In Math, we are adding three addends in Math, continuing our exploration of adding coins and tellling time.  In Science, we are learning all about under the sea!  We are continuing correct pencil grasp and handwriting every week.  We go over the strokes on the overhead projector.  Please encourage your child to hold the pencil correctly and to write from “ceiling to floor.” In Creative Writing we are working on an adventure about having magical sneakers.  We are exploring our books in Guided Reading and continuing our sight word mastery!  Spelling is a subject First Grade takes great pride in and they study and do fantastic!  We have centers on Friday.  Also, we started researching marine mammals in the computer lab.  First and Second grade work together on this unit and they seem to enjoy it thoroughly!  We are gearing up for the Talent Show and I must say I have excellent singers!  I  hope you all have a Magnificent May!  *** I need clorox wipes, paper towels, and tissues–thank you in advance!

Thank you,

Mrs. McNeill
