Mrs. Jones’ Class Curriculum Objectives
January 3 – February 7
Religion – The students will be learning about the Commandments that help us to love God. We will study the first three Commandments and work on mastering all ten for the final test.
Reading- We will be reading realistic fiction. Realistic fiction invites readers to experience worlds that are both similar to their own and different. The characters seem real but they are imaginary. Students will work on the skills required to draw conclusions and understand characterizations. The novel this month is The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Look for some comprehension work for homework also.
Handwriting- Please practice cursive writing at home. We continue to practice individual letters and writing sentences in class! All work should be done in cursive writing. All students should work neatly and write correctly.
English- Grammar skills will include learning about verbs, adjectives, adjectives in sentences, words with opposite meanings (antonyms), and words with same meanings (synonyms). We will learn the difference between fact and opinion and continue to write stories.
Mathematics
Grade 3- Multiplication will be our focus during January. We will learn the 7 to 9 times tables! Look for the final review test on the 2-9 times tables around February 10th! Geometry will be introduced including lines, angles, plane figures, triangle, and quadrilaterals.
Grade 4- The students will multiply 2-digit numbers and 3-digit numbers. We will practice this multiplication skill with money and continue to solve multi-step problems. Students should be using drill practice for multiplication and division facts. We will introduce division with 1 and 2 digit divisors.
Social Studies- The students will learn landforms, natural resources, capitals, and history in the Southeastern and Midwestern States. We will be having quizzes on the States and the capitals. A special project will be assigned during our study of the Southwestern and Western States!
Science- Students will investigate the basic needs of all living things and how these things met. We will learn how animals share certain basic survival needs, which they must satisfy by using their body parts and behavior.

1. Math - We will be getting ready to celebrate our “100th Day of School” party in February. Please think about a 100-collection activity with your child.

January 19 Science – Endangered Animal Project!
Students will hand in the final project in album form. Research notes due on January 9th.
February 23 Reading- Historical Fiction or History Book
Students will write and illustrate three postcards about an important character, place, and event in their book.
March 8 Social Studies – Western and Southwestern Project
Students will create fact cards in the form of boots or covered wagons to inform the class about their state!
