Health and Safety

Food Allergy

St. Francis School has a number of students who are sensitive to food and/or food additives.  Specifically, we have a student in the Pre-K room who has a severe TOUCH allergy to peanuts and the peanut family.  Because this type of allergy can cause a reaction without ingesting the allergen, we need to be extra vigilant in keeping our environment safe for this student.  As a result, we feel the need to implement the following protocols for our building.

  • Upon entering the building, please wash your hands with soap and water.
  • All Pre-K and Preschool students must pack peanut-free food items for snacks and lunch.
  • Anyone attending the After School Group must pack peanut-free food items for snacks and lunch (even the ones eaten before ASG).
  • Hands should be washed prior to entering the Pre-K room.
  • If food items are consumed during school and/or ASG, tables and charis must be washed completely with soapy water.
  • Students are to only eat the items they have packed and/or purchased for themselves.
  • Students should always keep their hands to themselves – especially after meals

If your child has an allergy, please let the school nurse know so that we can be prepared to treat him/her if the need arises.  It it the parents’ responsibility to inform the school of changes in health status of their child.

Parents of students with food allergies or sensitivities are encouraged to send in safe treats that can be stored in our freezer for those times treats are brought in to celebrate birthdays, etc.
